To bring performing/visual arts and artists together with the diverse communities of Imperial Valley;
to educate, enlighten and inspire.
We exist to specifically address the cultural needs of the northern areas of Imperial County,
while serving the entire Imperial Valley community.
NoCCA was formed in May 1997 to address the Imperial County Cultural Plan's mandate to broaden the scope of Arts activities in the northern communities of Imperial County. These areas had been underserved in the arts, and Palmer Auditorium, a fine performance facility, had been underutilized and neglected.
In 1998, NoCCA began renovation of Palmer, now called Palmer Performing Arts Center, and has since managed Palmer in partnership with the Brawley Union High School District. The center's foyer is now Palmer Art Gallery, for the exhibition of works by local artists, and Palmer is an attractive and fully-equipped venue for the performance and expression of dance, music, theater and visual arts, by both local and professional groups. In 2001, the Brawley City Council designated NoCCA the city's Arts Commission.
NoCCA presents a School Concert and Series for all Valley students, with a minimum cost to the schools, thanks to local sponsors. NoCCA is currently collaborating with Brawley Union High School for grants to bring the arts into the classrooms and curriculum.
In addition to school shows, NoCCA presents an annual season series of touring professional performers from January through May.
NoCCA also provides a comprehensive Arts Program to participants in the Regional Occupational Program's Youth Opportunity Grant "Steps of Success," which benefits several hundred North-End youth.
Our summer arts program, ARTSparks, has been a continued success, thanks to partnerships with the City of Brawley Parks and Recreation Department, Valley Independent Bank, Imperial Irrigation District, and Imperial Valley R.O.P., Rabobank, and BUHSD.
NoCCA would also like to thank the Brawley Inn
for supporting us by providing lodging for our visiting performers.
